It starts with a tiny snippet of For What It's Worth before launching into Mr Soul and somehow I don't think they are taking miming along very seriously at all! ;-)

I'm sure this post may come as a surprise to some people. This is my niece's favourite group and a week on Friday I take her to see them for her first ever concert.  Obviously I have been shown lots of videos and played just about the entire output of the band, not just because of the gig but because of her enthusiasm for the band. They seem to be breaking though a bit more now (they won a Brit Award tonight) but I feel like they have been around for a long time. The gig is a sell out, they play instruments, write songs that have some interesting hooks and layers to them and they aren't a manufactured boy band. I'm looking forward to seeing them, not as much as VJ is mind you! ;-)

Video - Richie Havens Freedom (Live at Woodstock)

At the risk of being a name dropper, Richie Havens remains one of the most wonderful people I have met. The man was warm, funny and gracious and sat and chatted to this wide-eyed music fan who still can't quite believe she was greeted like an old friend by the guy who opened Woodstock.

Woodstock (the film) is very much a father/daughter thing for me. In the days of VHS I remember trying to stay awake to cut out enough adverts from a TV showing so it would fit on the tape. I think the plan was that about three or four commercial breaks would cover it, but I'm pretty sure we stayed up and watched the whole thing together rather than viewing the tape the next day, and we talked about all the acts and what was going on at the time. Anyway, Richie Havens and his splintering guitar made an impact the first time I saw the film so meeting him was an honour.

It's turning out to be more difficult than I thought because I've been reading Graham Nash's autobiography and have just started Neil Young's book - so CSN&Y are rattling around my head a lot at the moment.
